Are you aware you "eat" whatever you rub onto your body? Shampoo, creams, soaps, deodorants. You name it. If you put it onto/into your skin it's as good eating it. Perhaps worse. At least the digestive system has a few basic mechanisms to prevent or limit toxins from passing into the body. For instance, most people would probably vomit if they drank their shampoo and conditioner in the morning rather than rubbing it onto their head. The skin just soaks it up. In my workshops on Intelligent Nutrition one of the principles I share with people is "If you wouldn't /couldn't eat it, don't put it on your skin". Perhaps the only shortfall with this principle is that many people will eat just about anything. I only have to look at a few ingredient lables on common foods in the local supermarket to see that this is true. For the rest of us—those of us who prefer not to eat toxic chemicals with names too complicated to even pronounce—it's not always so easy to identify which body-care products contain potentially harmful chemicals. Now its easier than ever. I just checked out a web site called Skin Deep. I recommend you look up all the body care products you and your family use and get informed. By the way, the very best body care products can be made at home, in the kitchen, with natural and relatively inexpensive ingredients. Check out some of the recipes on my site. |
